Spring Training Miscellany: Javy Arrives, Adbert Runs, Joe Coaches, More
It’s been a bit of a heavy day, what with Addison Russell facing the media for the first time since he was suspended under the domestic violence policy. Let’s set that aside for now, and get into some of the fun stuff from around Cubs camp today …
- Fun like Javy Baez arriving and heating up the room:

- A little lefty batting, too, which is actually not unusual for Baez:

- Baez can catch and throw with both hands, so it’s not a surprise that he can also swat some dingers lefty if he wants:

- New reliever Brad Brach is digging the rotation in front of him:

- Although he’s been set back by a couple weeks, so far, Adbert Alzolay has not indicated that his side issue is anything that will disrupt his normal preparation for the season:
Adbert Alzolay, Cubs' top pitching prospect, says his right lat is completely healed. Recent side soreness was unrelated. Two weeks behind rest of arms. Hopes to reach MLB as starter or reliever this year.

- For much more on what lies ahead for Alzolay, one of the Cubs’ top pitching prospects, Bryan got into it this week.
- Joe Maddon, coaching the coaches:

- Heh:
Ian Clarkin – the lefty pitcher the Cubs twice claimed off waivers from the White Sox this offseason – said: “I’ve never been to Chicago.”

- #SensualBaseball:
Ned Yost stiff-armed questions about position players this morning, asking the media to properly "celebrate the pitcher-catcher relationship" before full workouts begin next week.
