There’s a lot of interesting Cubs stuff going on today. For one, they’ve got a Spring Training game against their cross-town rivals. And for another, Eloy Jimenez is starting out in left field.
Jimenez, if you managed to forget, is one of the top prospects in all of baseball and was previously a member of the Cubs. But back in 2017, he was shipped to the South Side of Chicago as part of a broader deal that brought back Jose Quintana. Quintana hasn’t quite been as good as we know he can be, but he’s a HUGE reason they made it to the NLCS back in 2017 and to the playoffs at all last year. He’s also affordable and young – a great combination in this era.
But he’s not starting today. Instead, it’ll be Yu Darvish getting his second start of the Spring. If you remember back to his first game, Darvish was a little wild, walking four batters in fewer than 2.0 IP, but was pumping HEAT (touching 96 MPH in his first start of the year). You’ll obviously hope to see a little more control this time around, but I remain of the mind that health is above all else at the moment.
Enjoy your Sunday and Go Cubs.
