The Cubs have another one today, this time against the new-and-improved Cincinnati Reds at 2:05 CT.
Although most of the Reds offseason additions came on the pitching side (Sonny Gray, Alex Wood, Tanner Roark), their biggest addition might ultimately prove to be Yasiel Puig, who’s starting as the DH today. Puig, 28, slashed .267/.327/.494 (123 wRC+) last season, which was exactly even with Ben Zobrist (123 wRC+) and just barely behind Rizzo (125 wRC+). Like him or not, he’s a pretty good ballplayer.
As for the Cubs starting lineup, there’s a handful of regulars up top, and Victor Caratini, still fighting for the backup catcher job (against nobody?) is batting cleanup. A potential emergency depth starter, Alec Mills, takes the mound for the Cubs and that’s about everything of note. GO CUBS.
