Although he’s been dealing with some kind of arm issue at camp this year, which has limited his time in the field according to eyes-on folks, top Cubs shortstop prospect Nico Hoerner is hitting without any issues.
And for today, that means he – and we! – gets to do something fun:

There he is! After an injury-shortened professional debut last year, Hoerner tore up the Arizona Fall League (albeit primarily with an insane BABIP – but, hey, line drive stroke … ). Now he gets a crack at a Cactus League game before he even begins his first full professional season. Even for a first round pick, that’s cool.
Such is one of the benefits of Spring Training, where you can not only reward youngsters with these opportunities, but also get them some exposure to the big league staff and roster, and the experience of playing in front of a large crowd of Cubs fans.
Today’s game is not televised, sorry, but since it’s at Sloan, hopefully we’ll get some in-stadium feed action if he does something sweet at the plate.
