The Chicago Cubs have two games today, splitting the squad for a home match against the Angels and an away game against the Giants. Both games are on at 2:05 and the audio will be carried on MLB.com, but as far as I can tell neither game will be televised.
BUT there’s still some things to be excited about. For example, with Addison Russell leading off and playing short in the game against the Giants and Javy Baez acting as the team’s DH, Nico Hoerner, the Cubs #2 prospect according to Bleacher Nation, is playing shortstop! Hoerner is not a lock to stick at short throughout his career, but you can bet the Cubs will let him play himself out of that spot long before they force him out. It’s too bad we can’t get eyes on today’s game, because I’d love to see for myself how he looks there.
Also of note: Daniel Descalso is getting a start at third base today. It’s not particularly surprising, as we know he’ll move around a lot this season (indeed, that’s kinda the point of him), but most of his starts have been at second so it simply stood out to me.
It’s going to be Cole Hamels against the Giants and Alec Mills against the Angels. None of these games count, but I’m still rooting for the Cubs. Peace out.
