Consistent with Joe Maddon’s comments on the state of the bullpen – in short, that maybe the Cubs will consider a marginal addition, but a big name like Craig Kimbrel has not been discussed – Theo Epstein is not about to increase any expectations right now.
Theo: “I don’t foresee anything significant at this time.”

As always, you have to caveat with, “Would he really tell you if the opposite was true?” But the thing is, the Cubs have been VERY consistent in this message throughout the second half of the offseason, and the owner has said there is not any additional money for a big free agent signing. Maybe the Cubs keep hiding the ball. Or maybe this is just the reality, despite how perfect a short-term contract for Kimbrel would be right about now.
