Today’s game is going to be awesome.
Not only are the Cubs squaring off against the White Sox, and not only will it be televised on WGN, the Cubs lineup is loaded with a bunch of guys you actually want to see, including two particularly intriguing choices: David Bote at shortstop and Ian Happ at second base.
That defensive alignment is not one you’re likely to see a lot of this summer, but both guys will be expected to step into those roles from time to time, so it’s fun to see them there. Also notable from today’s lineup: Cole Hamels is batting for himself. If I remember correctly, he’s the first Cubs pitcher to hit for himself this Spring and could kickstart that process as we get closer to Spring Training.
And although I’m a Cubs fan, I can’t say I’m not excited to see former top prospect Lucas Giolito start today. There’s no Eloy Jimenez in the outfield (he was already optioned to Minor League camp), but still … this is a good one to be televised.
Go Cubs.
