You want to know how the Cubs can avoid all bullpen issues tonight? Kyle Hendricks throwing a complete game shutout in his 2019 regular season debut. That’d be nice.
Indeed, Hendricks is taking the ball for the first time this season against a team he didn’t actually face last year. And although Hendricks did make a start against the Braves in 2017, he hasn’t pitched in Atlanta since 2015. I’m not sure that matters much, but it was a little surprising.
It’s very early in the season, but I really hope to see a continued offensive onslaught tonight. Hopefully, the Cubs can square up the lefty and former top prospect Sean Newcomb well enough, because the bullpen might need as much breathing room as possible.
