Well, the bullpen didn’t blow the lead. So there’s that.
Yu Darvish pitched passably through four innings, but may have been on the verge of losing it in the 5th (the rain didn’t help, I’m sure) when he got pulled after the first two batters reached. Carl Edwards Jr. came in and so did his wildness. When Tyler Chatwood has to come in to clean up after your wildness, you know things have really gone wrong. Mike Montgomery got knocked around again, and that put the game well out of reach.
At least the Cubs didn’t get no-hit into the late innings thanks to Mark Zagunis, and at least they didn’t get shut out thanks to a teaser rally in the 9th inning. Otherwise, there’s not much positive for me to say at the moment.
