I’m going to miss the start of tonight’s game, as I’ll appear live on CLTV’s Sports Feed right around the first pitch, but I’ll be racing home to catch as much of Yu Darvish’s start as possible.
I’m not going to dig back into his last outing too much, we discussed it at length earlier today, but suffice it to say, let’s hope his command is there from the start, because if it is, I believe his velocity will be back up to his Spring levels, as well.
Meanwhile, Max Fried, a former top pitching prospect, is getting his first start of the year tonight, after making a couple appearances out of the bullpen. This’ll be just the 10th start of his big league career, despite initially breaking through back in 2017. Although Fried hasn’t quite put everything together at the big league level yet, his 58.6% ground ball rate (61.1 IP) stands out.
We didn’t need another reason to start Kyle Schwarber over Jason Heyward tonight, but if we did, that’d be it.
The Cubs have dropped four straight since winning on Opening Day, so let’s, you know, win one.
