The Cubs’ bats mostly performed in this one in a way I’d be inclined to excuse and ignore given the conditions, but that’s not necessarily a fun thing to say when the other team managed five runs. At least they hit the ball hard a lot of times even though they found a glove. That definitely comforts you right now, doesn’t it?
I don’t think Yu Darvish actually pitched poorly tonight, even considering the conditions, but we can talk about that more tomorrow when I can dig in a little bit more. There was obviously some hard contact, but also a ton of whiffs and Darvish was around the zone all night. Eventually, we have to start seeing some real results, but if you’re inclined to keep it a little positive tonight, that may have been a very nice step forward for Darvish. That definitely comforts you right now, doesn’t it?
Unfortunately, though, Joe Maddon’s decision to pull Darvish very quickly in 6th inning after some crap hits didn’t work out, as Kyle Ryan allowed both of those runners to score. At least the rest of the bullpen pitched well from there, extending their scoreless streak. That definitely comforts you right now, doesn’t it?
Are you comforted? ARE YOU COMFORTED BY THE THINGS THAT SEEM DECENT?!?
