The Cubs trounced the Pirates in Game 1 of the series on Monday (10-0), before hitting an off-day yesterday. But they’re both back at it tonight, with just the second game of the year at Wrigley Field (feels weird that it’s only the second game, right? It’s been a long 10 games…).
In any case, Yu Darvish is taking the mound for the Cubs in his 2019 Wrigley Field debut, and will do so in fairly chilly conditions. He hasn’t quite kicked off his Cubs career in earnest just yet (i.e. he hasn’t had that one, obviously great start on which to build), so I’m hoping he can finally deliver that tonight. The cold won’t help, but, hey, it’s part of the job.
Jordan Lyles has made just one start this season, and it was a scoreless affair against the Reds. With that said, he lasted just 5.0 innings and allowed more walks (3) than strikeouts (2). He was pretty good in that game overall, but I believe in the Cubs offense a lot more than I do the Reds. We’ll see what they bring to the game tonight.
Reminder: The Cubs have scored 10 runs or more in half of their games this season. I’d like to see that continue … or increase. Go Cubs.
