When it rain, it pours. And even when the Cubs win in the rain, they lose their back-up catcher who has been raking, including in this very game. It’s the Cubs’ first series win of the year, and yet I still feel bummed.
Jose Quintana was masterful through seven innings tonight. Yes, he was aided by a generous strike zone, but he was just nails throughout, working the best starting pitching performance of the year for the Cubs by a stretch.
The Cubs managed to plate a couple runs on doubles by Daniel Descalso and Victor Caratini before the rains game, and then the bullpen finished things out. But in the process, Caratini may have busted his hand … and when he was breaking out, while providing tons of rest opportunities to keep Willson Contreras sharp … sigh … SIGH …
