David Bote loves playing the hero at Wrigley Field, man. Not only did he twice hit walk-off bombs there last year, he also hit a game-tying homer against the Diamondbacks before Anthony Rizzo walked it off. Remember that?
And today, against those same Diamondbacks, Bote walked the Cubs off again – this time, a measly single did the trick:

After Javy Baez went all El Mago on a double to right that Adam Jones bobbled just enough to send Baez to third, Willson Contreras took a pitch off the elbow, and the Diamondbacks elected to pitch to Bote rather than walk the bases loaded. We can’t say for sure it would have worked out better if they had walked Bote, but we can say for sure this version didn’t work out.
