In the midst of his stellar performance last night against the Dodgers, Jose Quintana was facing Cody Bellinger, the hottest hitter in the NL, in a 3-2 count. Since Bellinger pretty much exclusively wrecks the ball these days, it was unsurprising to see him rocket one back up the box.
It was, however, surprising to see Quintana not only snag the ball out of a total sense of self-protection, but then also act like it was the biggest totally-not-a-big-deal ever:
That’s 96 mph off the bat, coming at you with no time to prepare and your body natural misaligned. You throw up your glove and you do what you can.
But if you catch it, man, you act like a dang boss.
