The Cubs have a chance to extend their no-series-losses streak today (active since April 7th!) against the Diamondbacks, and Joe Maddon isn’t pulling any punches.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Daniel Descalso, 2B
- Kris Bryant, RF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Javy Baez, SS
- David Bote, 3B
- Jason Heyward, CF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Jose Quintana, P
Given the way Jose Quintana has been pitching lately – and the way Albert Almora Jr. and Ben Zobrist have (not) been hitting – I’d argue that this offensive group and defensive alignment is by far the Cubs best nine at the moment. Do you agree?
With Jason Heyward sliding over to center field in place of Almora, that frees up third base for David Bote, who’s been smoking the ball, by way of Kris Bryant playing right field. And with Bote in at third, Daniel Descalso is able to cover second base and lead off, where he seems like the best option right now.
And, sure, Kyle Schwarber has hit a bit of a wall offensively, but when he’s your *eighth* and apparently weakest hitter, you know the lineup is looking good. Plus, he’s actually riding a three-game hitting streak with four hits in eight plate appearances including three doubles. Obviously, even the best laid plans don’t always work out, but I think, with this group, Joe Maddon is putting the Cubs in the best possible position to succeed.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (3:10 CT).
