After a down 2018 season, when, for one reason or another, Willson Contreras simply lost the ability to really drive the ball with authority in the second half, the 26-year-old Cubs catcher is currently hitting a ridiculous .301/.427/.663 on the season, and doing so while starting a disproportionate volume of the games with Victor Caratini on the shelf.
It’s been a wildly impressive first month+ for Contreras, and that’s before you consider the challenges he faces, emotionally, off of the field.
We are reminded that the world in which he is living right now doesn’t take place solely on the baseball diamond:
