WOOOOOOOO BABY. It’s hard to even transition into talking about the game as a whole when an ending like that happens.
The Cubs pulled out a two-out, walk-off win thanks to a wind-cutting homer by Kris Bryant, but Albert Almora deserves some love for his earlier homer that tied the game, as well as his quality defense in center field (in a game where the Cubs’ defense was definitely not otherwise shining).
Jon Lester gave up some hard contact in this one, pitching to the elements perhaps, but nevertheless got through six innings without allowing an earned run. He just keeps on doing his very impressive thing.
Behind Lester, the bullpen work was incredible tonight, with each of Brandon Kintzler, Brad Brach, and Steve Cishek working scoreless frames with two strikeouts.
Bryant, who also tripled in the first inning to help get the Cubs their first run, is really just hitting the ball so very well right now, and it makes me want to celebrate at home plate.
