What a Nice Day for the Bryzzo Boys, Who Are Finally Scorching at the Same Time

Chicago Cubs

I am reminded of Theo Epstein’s introductory press conference when he first joined the Cubs back in late 2011, as he enumerated many of the ways that “Baseball is better … ”

I am reminded of that today, because it popped into my head that baseball is better when Kris Bryan and Anthony Rizzo are both playing well at the same time. To be sure, they’ve done it more often than not over their four+ years together, but I’m not so sure they’ve had a good long streak of playing really well at the same time since 2017. Remember: when Bryant was scorching hot to begin 2018, Rizzo was slumping cold. And then when Rizzo turned it on full fire, Bryant got hurt.

So, anyway, I get especially excited when they’re both streaking, and when they both have a really nice day out there, both at the plate, and combining for a beautiful play in the field:

Nicely done on both ends. And both guys, of course, homered today, raising their season lines to:

Anthony Rizzo – .260/.380/.557, 147 wRC+

Kris Bryant – .250/.394/.524, 145 wRC+

Both guys are now in the top 12 in the NL in wRC+. (Oh, but fun fact? There are TWO Cubs teammates ahead of them, in Javy Baez and Willson Contreras!)
