And the Cubs take the series from the Brewers! That feels like a big one already.
Although the night, like the series, won’t be one that the offense will put on its refrigerator, they scored enough to win tonight without the benefit of 15 innings. Kris Bryant went deep again, and also scored the leading run on a Javy Baez double earlier in the game.
That offense was enough because the pitching, for the second day in a row, was truly incredible. Jon Lester was in several jams – rarely of his own making – and BDJ just kept getting out of it. His ERA is now down to a ridiculous 1.16, the best mark in baseball.
Brandon Kintzler and Steve Cishek finished things off from there – minimal bullpen required thanks to Lester, which was huge given the marathon yesterday.
Cubs win, Cubs take the series, and now have a 2.0-game lead in the Central!
