This morning, when writing about various Cubs injuries, here’s what I said about Javy Baez’s heel situation, which kept him out last night – emphasis added: “On the more positive side of things, there is still no indication that Javy Baez’s bruised heel is anything worse than that, and, after taking last night off, maybe he gets a chance to get right back out there tonight (Cubs.com). Even if he sits tonight, too – against a righty who is very tough on righties – I wouldn’t necessarily freak.”
I guess my words are going to be tested:
Maddon still not sure where Baez is physically . He hopes to start him Wednesday

Joe Maddon plans to keep Javier Baez (heel) out of the #Cubs' starting lineup again tonight: 'It's just something we really want to be careful with so it does not become prolonged.' https://t.co/u3QxX8HUDf pic.twitter.com/TWtk7PaThM

Like I said, I’m down with the cautious approach*, especially given the match-up tonight against Zach Eflin. Obviously you can’t replace Baez at short with a lefty bat, but you could at least shuffle the deck to ensure one more lefty is in there.
Hopefully Baez is indeed back in there tomorrow.
*(You are reminded that the Cubs permitted Baez to stay in the game for several innings after his bad-looking injury on Sunday night. Maybe exercise a little more caution at the front-end of these things, as well?)
