You don’t even have to say it. I already know you are wrestling with some variation of either “who?” or “who cares?” By now you should already know the answer to that second one – I care about all Cubs roster moves! – but as for the first one, eh, I don’t blame you.
The Cubs claimed righty Chandler Shepherd off of waivers this weekend, and as Bryan correctly surmised, the team hoped to slip him through waivers so they could keep him in the minors without him taking up a 40-man roster spot. No dice, though, as the Orioles snagged him (Gonzales).
Now it’s very likely the Orioles will try to do the same thing, and who knows? Maybe the Cubs will do this dance all over again.
For now, though, the removal of Shepherd leaves the Cubs’ 40-man roster at 39.
