I’m very happy the Cubs won their game last night, because now they can head into today’s finale with a whole lot less pressure. Obviously, a series win is still the goal, but you’ve just got to feel better with a guaranteed series split when Aaron Nola is taking the mound.
Now, with that said, I know that Nola hasn’t been himself this year, but we’re still talking about one of the better pitchers in baseball, who’s still only 25 years old and has a few seasons of high-level success under his belt already. I wouldn’t bet on him finishing the season as poorly as he’s pitching now, so let’s just hope the resurgence doesn’t start today.
Jon Lester, meanwhile, is coming off his worst start of the season, but he always seems to have one of those really tough ones among a stream of great games. I’m ready to see him bounce back and for the Kris Bryant-less Cubs to take this series against a good team. Go Cubs.
