The Cubs lost a heartbreaker last night and must now win back-to-back games to avoid losing yet another series to the last-place Cincinnati Reds. Here’s the lineup for Game 2.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Javy Baez, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Victor Caratini, C
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Addison Russell, 2B
- Yu Darvish, P
Ah … just as I expected.
When Victor Caratini grabbed the start against Anthony DeSclafani yesterday afternoon with Yu Darvish on the mound today, I figured it would be the first of two straight starts for a few reasons …
I actually love V. Caratini starting today (w/ the potential to start tomorrow, too).
– More playing time for him to catch back up
– His lefty bat plays against DeSclafani
– He gets paired w/ Yu Darvish again tomorrow
– Contreras gets a much-needed two-day breather https://t.co/dd4BepErZP— Michael Cerami (@Michael_Cerami) May 24, 2019
… And that’s just what the Cubs did.
It almost worked, too. Caratini got on base twice yesterday, Willson Contreras got his consecutive days off, and Yu Darvish gets a preferred target behind the plate today. The only thing missing is, you know, a win … thanks bullpen.
Anyway, besides Caratini, the only notable lineup call today is Addison Russell at second base. One day it’s him, one day it’s Daniel Descalso, one day it’s David Bote, and hopefully one day soon it’ll also be Ian Happ and Ben Zobrist … but unfortunately not one of those FIVE second base options are guarantees.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ … oh just beat the stupid Reds, please?
