I sure hope the momentum Yu Darvish has built from his 11K start (which was actually against these very Reds) and his quality start (against the Phillies) continues into today, because the Cubs really need a win.
If they don’t win today, they’ll have lost two series to the last place Reds within a week and a half and that’s just … I literally can’t even. Obviously, the Cubs will need to win tomorrow too, but let’s just take this one day at a time. Especially because I don’t even want to THINK about typing “avoiding a sweep,” at this time tomorrow.
Unfortunately, Tyler Mahle, the Reds starter for today, has been pretty solid this season and has lasted 6.0 innings or more in six of his nine total starts including his last three straight. Indeed, his latest was a 6.0 IP shutout of the Dodgers with just 4 hits and 2 walks. Good luck, Cubs. And get a big lead. I’m not sure you can count on the bullpen.
