I’m Not Sure Victor Caratini is the Solution to the Cubs’ Bullpen Issues

Late in yesterday’s blowout loss to the Reds, Joe Maddon turned to back-up catcher Victor Caratini to close out the game. When the bullpen is struggling, you leave no stone unturned, AMIRITE?

Alas, I don’t think Caratini is going to pull a Henry Rowengartner-like explosion as a dynamite closer for the Cubs:

One of those 65 mph fireballs was middle-middle and got abused by fellow back-up catcher, Curt Casali:

The shot took Caratini’s career ERA all the way up to 12.00, which is a shame. He came into the game at just 9.00, or just a touch above Carl Edwards Jr.’s 8.38 mark on the season. Coulda been a real battle if that ball hadn’t found the basket.

At least Caratini was able to compose himself and finish out the inning:
