The Cubs beat the Cardinals again tonight, though you may not have been expecting it after the top of the first.
Despite a really rough start to the game, giving up four runs – including two homers – in the first inning, Jon Lester wound up settling down and going scoreless through the next five innings. Thus, the final line? Not too bad! Bearing down after a brutal first inning is some serious BDJ stuff.
The offense picked up Lester immediately, getting back two of those runs in the bottom of the first, tying the game by the bottom of the fourth, and then busting out for four in the sixth to take the lead.
The bullpen closed things out from there – particularly whiffy at that – and it was a very nice win for the Cubs.
