Although the injury sure looked and sounded scary, it seems like the Cubs and Steve Cishek may have missed the worst of it.
After taking a Brandon Kintzler warm-up toss (with surprising movement) off of the inside of his right knee, Cishek was carted off the field yesterday. But thankfully, it looks like it will just be a really bad bruise that will keep him out for a day or two:
All things considered, Cubs reliever Steve Cishek was doing OK after getting drilled in the right knee while playing catch pregame: “It just got me in the perfect spot. It’s just a bruise, thankfully. Hopefully, it will just be like a day or two.”

Cishek said he should be ok in a day or two after getting hit in the knee while playing catch before the game.

It’s also nice to see word from the horse’s mouth, and a little sense of humor about it, too (via his IG story):
I hope the Cubs, though, brought someone along from AAA Iowa to Los Angeles just in case they need to make a move at some point during this series – either displacing a reliever like Brad Brach, or if Cishek does wind up needing an IL stint. No sense in playing an arm short when there’s a cache of quality arms available at AAA.
