The Cubs dropped the first of four games against the Dodgers last night, but with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, that wasn’t exactly a huge surprise. Still, I did hope they could get off to a nice start and potentially sneak a series win out of Los Angeles. Now, to do that they’ll have to win three straight on the road, starting tonight with Rich Hill.
The 39-year-old former Cubs is still slingin’ it – this will be his 9th start of the season – and he’s been getting crazy good results: 2.40 ERA. Also, he just generally seems to do well against the Cubs.
I will point out that his 4.09 FIP is a whole lot higher than his ERA, but it’s hard to argue with a 28.0% strikeout rate, a 6.5% walk rate, a 48.2% ground ball rate and much better than average hard and soft contact. He’s still good. Be prepared for that. But so is Kyle Hendricks and it’s up to him to make sure one loss doesn’t turn into two in a row. Go Cubs.
