Chicago Cubs Lineup: Will The Lefties Actually Help?

Chicago Cubs

Well, the best the Cubs can hope for now is a series split. Here’s the lineup for Game 3 against Walker Buehler and the Dodgers.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Kyle Schwarber, LF
  2. Kris Bryant, 3B
  3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  4. Javy Baez, SS
  5. Jason Heyward, CF
  6. Victor Caratini, C
  7. Carlos Gonzalez, RF
  8. Yu Darvish, P
  9. Addison Russell, 2B

Although you may notice a ton of lefties in there tonight against Walker Buehler (Schwarber, Rizzo, Heyward, Caratini, and Gonzalez), I’m afraid it might not be too much of a help. At least not if his 2019 splits hold true:

Buehler v. LHH: .189/.240/.322 (.242 wOBA)
Buehler v. RHH: .248/.270/.380 (.276 wOBA)

And I’m afraid the same can be said about his career (.249 wOBA versus lefties, .267 wOBA versus righties). For whatever reason, he’s simply crushed southpaws throughout his (relatively brief) time in the big leagues.

Instead, I think the Cubs are going to have to lean on Yu Darvish tonight, so hopefully he’s up to the task. He’s got his semi-personal catcher, Victor Caratini, behind the plate and a quality defense behind him. Here’s hoping.
