Given the preceding three games, the way things have gone for the last month, and the fact that it was Jacob deGrom on the mound for the Mets, you’ve gotta call today’s win about as good as a split at home can feel, right?
The Cubs went into the bottom of the 8th trailing by a run when Javy Baez pulled out his 0-2 oppo stick for what would prove to be a game-winning three-run homer. Pedro Strop made quick work of the Mets in the 9th to end the game, and the celebratory orange slices came out.
Cole Hamels was very good again today, going 7.0 innings and allowing just three runs. One of those runs came on an RBI single by the opposing pitcher – which was something Hamels himself did, too, so I guess you can’t be too mad about it.
