Today is a big day for soon-to-be Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel, who could make his final tune-up appearance at AAA Iowa tonight.
“Tuesday is an important checkpoint for us to see how he’s feeling,” Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein told Cubs.com. “We’ll get together with him and make a call after that game and see what direction we go. He’s such a pro and, obviously, a veteran. He knows himself better than anybody else. Getting his input is important. We’re getting close to the point where we’ll have established enough of a foundation where there’s an opportunity to take the next step provided he feels good with everything.”
In other words, if Kimbrel throws comfortably tonight and feels good in the morning, he’s likely to join the big league team on Thursday or Friday.
