It’s always hard to focus on the baseball in a baseball game when something bigger picture happens early on, like Cole Hamels departing with a side injury. The rest of the crew tried to do their best to make a game of it, but Mike Montgomery’s deep struggles in an emergency role were too much to overcome. Kudos to the other relievers, though, as they did a great job eating up innings and at least giving the bats a chance.
The offense, though, was pretty quiet, as they have too often been. It’s frustrating. They didn’t even have a ton of scoring opportunities in this one, and when they did, it wasn’t happening outside of one inning and a couple big swings.
