The Cubs have a chance to take the series today, and with Jon Lester on the mound, no less, but they’ll have to do it without Javy Baez. Here’s the lineup for the rubber match in Cincinnati against the righty, Anthony DeSclafani.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:Â
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Kris Bryant, RF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Jason Heyward, CF
- David Bote, 3B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Daniel Descalso, 2B
- Jon Lester, P
Baez is getting the day off this afternoon, and Addison Russell is starting at second base in his place. And with Albert Almora Jr. off as well, Jason Heyward moves over to center making room for Kris Bryant in right. That leaves us with an infield of David Bote (third), Russell (short), and Daniel Desclaso at second base. It’s a weird group – particularly for a game the Cubs would really like to win – but it’s what we’ve got.
For what it’s worth, DeSclafani has been BRUTAL against lefties this season (.320/.386/.608) so I’m willing to roll the dice on whatever Descalso can give you.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (12:10 CT).
