Thanks to the Cubs’ dreadful last six weeks, it has been easy not to feel the full weight of Jason Heyward’s awesomeness during that time. Not only has he led the Cubs in offense, he’s also been back to his old tricks in the outfield, making fantastic plays a near nightly basis.
This weekend, dude robbed Nick Senzel three times:
Advanced defensive metrics in small samples can be really tough to gauge, but so far this year, Heyward has once again been very good when in right field, logging a whopping 10 DRS in partial duty out there (7 more than all of last year). The rub is that he’s rated abysmally in center field, which will be something to monitor.
