News you never want to see from baseball, as a player is dealing with a very serious illness.
Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco has been out since late May, as he was struggling with a then unannounced blood condition. Unfortunately, Carrasco has announced that the blood condition was cancer:

Carrasco suggests that the condition is now under control, though it’s not entirely clear what that means precisely in Carrasco’s case. There is hope that he could still return to the team later this year, though that’s a secondary hope to simply wishing him a healthy recovery from the illness.
It’s a reminder that even professional baseball players are not immune to serious and scary health situations, as they otherwise put their bodies out there every day for our entertainment. Carrasco, who was previously a frequent trade target attached to the Cubs, is just 32 years old.
All the best to Carrasco and his family as they go through this process, and I hope to see him back on the mound as soon as possible.
