In a very appropriate ending to the first half, the Cubs left us with a turd to enjoy for the next five days.
The Cubs’ only offense came from a guy who was in extended Spring Training when the season opened, and as much as I love the Robel Garcia story, that ain’t a good thing to say about this one.
The rest of the offense was clubbing Ivan Nova early, getting bad BABIP luck, but also leaving runners stranded. Then, when Nova adjusted, the Cubs did not. He cruised, as did the White Sox’s VAUNTED bullpen.
Kyle Hendricks, still working his way back from the shoulder impingement, did not have his best command, and didn’t really get all that bad results given that reality. Hopefully he is even fresher for the second half.
Oh, and the Cubs haven’t won a series in a month.
