Although I can’t say that the Cubs are actually behind the Mets’ withering descent – that’s been in the works for a couple decades now – it does feel like the current iteration of complete immolation started with manager Mickey Callaway and Jason Vargas melting down in the Wrigley Field visitor’s clubhouse last month after the team blew one to the Cubs.
And it’s only gotten worse since then for a Mets team that tried, aggressively, to put together a winner in the offseason. This time it was the rookie GM losing it:
