You might not be all that impressed that Robel Garcia is 26th in the league in home runs.
But when I tell you that “the league” is the AA Southern League, where Garcia missed two weeks of game action and also last played on MAY 8, you might be a little more impressed.
Heck, he’s 27th in the PCL, too, and he only played 50 games there.
In total, Garcia hit 21 homers at AA and AAA in just 72 games before his call up to the Cubs, where of course he’s homered twice already. The most recent was yesterday, accounting for the Cubs’ only run:
95 mph at the very top of the zone … and Robel hits it 394 feet. I’m not sure you’re going to beat him up there.
Bonus fun, that homer came from the right side, and his first homer came from the left.
With the Home Run Derby tonight, all I’m saying is if there’s a need for a VERY LAST MINUTE fill-in, give Robel a shot and he might turn some heads. I’d watch.
