A couple NL Central foe items for you tonight, as the Cardinals are gonna be without their catcher for a bit, and the Brewers have picked up a pitcher flyer.
We have made the following roster moves:
▪️Reinstated Matt Carpenter (lower back strain) from the 10-day IL
▪️Placed Yadier Molina (right thumb tendon strain) on the 10-day IL, retroactive to July 8
▪️Optioned 1B/OF Rangel Ravelo and LHP Tyler Webb to Memphis (AAA) pic.twitter.com/Ufmy3QIPD2— St. Louis Cardinals (@Cardinals) July 11, 2019
I will presume that Yadi Molina’s thumb injury was not related to his Instagram reply flurry over the weekend. But it would be funny, in a Carlos Zambrano kind of way, if it were. The injury actually already kept Molina out for a while earlier this year.
Molina isn’t expected to need surgery, and could be back within a few weeks. Still, it is never a good thing for that pitching staff when Molina is unavailable.
As for the Brewers:
It’s a minor-league deal for Shelby Miller with the #Brewers, per source.

Miller, who is still only 28, has been a disaster of injuries and awfulness since his great season with the Braves back in 2015. His latest run was 44.0 innings of 8.59-ERA baseball with the Rangers, with peripherals that mostly supported it. Maybe the Brewers can unlock something he’s been missing these last few years, but if I were a Brewers fan, I’d hardly be counting on it.
I would still expect them to be thoroughly in the market to add an arm.
