What blown lead? All I know is the CUBS ARE UNDEFEATED IN THE SECOND HALF.
Ironically, the Cubs just barely squeaking out a win at home, after blowing the lead late, seems a pretty appropriate “tone-setter” for the second half. For reasons good and bad.
It took a video review to end it, and overcoming a blown 8th inning lead, but the Cubs managed to beat the Pirates today at Wrigley Field to open the second half with a win. That feels good, whatever it looked like.
And a lot of it looked good! Yu Darvish was absolutely ON for his six innings of work, probably the best we’ve seen him look at Wrigley Field. The reliever corps outside of Pedro Strop (that velocity and command is … troubling) was solid. Kris Bryant hit a bomb. The offense did just enough, and Jason Heyward played hero.
