Just before the Cubs placed Willson Contreras on the injured list last night, Theo Epstein and company traded for Royals catcher Martin Maldonado.
And less than 24 hours later, he’ll find himself in the starting lineup:
Newly acquired Martin Maldonado will start and catch Alec Mills tonight, Joe Maddon says.

According to Joe Maddon, Maldonado will find himself parked behind the plate tonight to help Alec Mills navigate just his third big league start. Given Maldonado’s particular skillset (defense and framing), Mills couldn’t have asked for a better pairing. Hopefully, the rest of the Cubs offense is up to the task, though, because Maldonado does not offer as much at the plate as he does behind it.
