The Cubs will try to avoid a sweep in San Francisco this afternoon, and they’ll have to do it with Tyler Chatwood on the mound instead of Jon Lester, who is sick.
Here’s their lineup for the finale, which includes the return of Willson Contreras (and departure of Addison Russell).
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Javy Baez, SS
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Robel Garcia, 2B
- Albert Almora, Jr., CF
- Tyler Chatwood, P
The Giants are starting 26-year-old righty Tyler Beede today, in what will be just the 13th big league start of his career. Beede hasn’t been very effective overall this season (4.70 ERA, 4.96 FIP), but is coming off an impressive 8.0 shutout inning performance against the Mets in San Francisco (just 3 hits and 1 walk against 5 strikeouts). Before that, he allowed just 3ER in 6.2 IP against the Brewers in Milwaukee and before that he allowed just 1ER in 7.0 IP against the Padres in San Diego.
In other words: He’s on a bit of a hot streak. Wonderful.
At least there’s this: Beede has been pretty terrible against left-handed hitters this season, so maybe the four in the lineup can do some damage:
Versus LHH: .257/.356/.475 (.352 wOBA)
Versus RHH: .233/.317/.341 (.288 wOBA)
As usual, we’ll have your Pre-Gamin’ close to game time.
