The Brewers lost again to the Reds last night, so that’s groovy, and the Cubs still have a 2.0-game lead over them.
But … well … the Cardinals did not lose:
For the first time in a little while, the Cubs could fall out of first place today. And the Cardinals – wow, the Cardinals – could climb into first place.
Kudos to the Cardinals for their recent very hot stretch, which is well-timed with the looming trade deadline. How will they look a week from today? You’ve gotta believe they’ll be picking up some pitching.
The Brewers also really need to add a starter, but as they drift closer to .500, you wonder how aggressive they’re going to be, particularly with a thinned farm system and two teams ahead of them (and now having fallen back a bit in the Wild Card race).
