We know that the front office will have to be creative if they want to make any additions, and we also know how much this Cubs roster could use another bat and another arm.
Joe Maddon knows it, too. And he sounds hopeful:
Maddon said Theo and Jed have been working “feverishly” regarding roster upgrades. “We’re really engaged- I know that.”

Joe Maddon said that the Cubs front office is working hard on additions. “ that’s been our M.O around here since I came in “

Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are back in Chicago for trading deadline work with their scouts and other clubs. Both were in Milwaukee the last two games.

I have zero doubt the front office will be trying very, very hard to make some reasonable additions (or, if some kind of unforeseen whopper comes together, they will be ready to act). I do, however, have my doubts that they are going to be able to make meaningful additions without taking on salary – and that’s something they’ve strongly indicated they cannot do.
