My guess is that this is a precursor to the Mets otherwise unloading some pieces – Noah Syndergaard – and aiming to be competitive in 2020. But why pick up Stroman in a market that had to be REALLY eager to get him for THIS year? The Mets, meanwhile, are 11.5 games back in the East, and 6.0 games back in the Wild Card, behind six other teams.
Possible three-team situation going on?
