Lukewarm Stove: Blame the Mets for Holding Things Up, Brewers in Starter Talks, More

Chicago Cubs

Things are just tremendously quiet right now. Either the next two days are going to be bonkers, or they’re going to be as slow and timid as the market has been so far. Nobody seems to want to take a leap.

  • Here’s hoping the team to take a leap isn’t the Brewers – or least let it be a big mistake:

  • So the Brewers could be looking to pick up an arm from the Padres, or possibly max out Robbie Ray. Either way, there’s a load of potential goodness there for a Brewers team that really, really needs an effective starter. They added Jordan Lyles today, but that’s not enough. Keep an eye on this, as it still seems highly likely the Brewers add a starter.
  • The Mets continue to hold the market in their confused, sweaty palms:

  • Meanwhile, the Dodgers seem intent on adding a really impactful reliever (must be nice to be so far ahead in your division you know you’ll get to use that reliever in the postseason):

  • You had to figure someone would say this after the absurd way things have gone:

  • It’s not impossible that moving the date back just moves back the problems and slowness – at some point, you just need teams to have to make a decision, and you don’t necessarily want teams to be able to create a group of mercenaries for the final month of the season. Maybe one more week would be enough?
  • In conclusion:
