It’s not a trade, but it’s at least nice to wake up to some news to kick off the Blogathon. Thought it could be news that makes the trade market a little dicier for the Cubs.
Although the Cubs are reportedly among the “most aggressive” teams looking for bullpen help, one of the most attractive names likely just came off the board:
Ken Giles still dealing with elbow inflammation according to #BlueJays manager Charlie Montoyo.

Giles dealt with the issue earlier this year, came back and pitched, but with a return of elbow inflammation, which now has him sitting out games? Yeah, his price tag just plummeted enough that there’s no way the Blue Jays will trade him. He’s controlled through arbitration for another year, so the Blue Jays – even if they want to trade him – will just wait until the offseason at the earliest.
It’s an impact reliever off the market, and, even if the Cubs weren’t going to go after him (they were connected to him a while ago, but not recently), it decreases the market and pushes would-be suitors onto other options.
Back to work, teams.
