I’ll point out the numbers, because I saw they were talking about it on the post game last night, and I’ve seen plenty of tweets. But I’ll tell you up front, the sample is so small that you just can’t draw any conclusions yet.
Since he tweaked his knee in San Francisco on July 24, Bryant has taken 18 plate appearances, notching just two singles and one walk, while striking out seven times. It’s ugly, ugly stuff.
… and it’s four games. I mean, 18 plate appearances is nothing. Yes, he has looked terrible the last few games, but that happens all the time through a season irrespective of a knee issue. All three of the balls he put into play last night were hit over 90 mph, and two of them went more than 340 feet. I really don’t think there’s much signal there.
For now, we move along. Get back to me if he looks terrible for another week or two. Then I might start wondering about the knee. Dude is just as likely to blow right back up tonight.
