Ben Zobrist, who stepped away from baseball three months ago to attend to his family as he and his wife go through a divorce, is trying to work his way back into game shape for a return to the big league Cubs before the season ends.
To that end, he’d been in South Bend with the A-ball team there for about five minutes when he immediately wanted to make some fans happy:

You just can’t teach that kind of understanding about how you can impact fans who might otherwise never have a chance to see a star like Zobrist up close and personal. Given the circumstances of why Zobrist is there at South Bend, it’s all the more compelling and impressive that he took the time to do that.
The fans, of course, gave him plenty of love right back:

The plan is for Zobrist, who is DH’ing tonight, to play a trio of games, and then the Cubs will evaluate what makes sense for his next step after the weekend.
